As a website owner, you need to check your content because not all parts of it are SEO-friendly. These text segments can negatively affect your SERP ranking. Also, these areas might be found in a particular portion of a web page that is not valuable from an SEO perspective.

You can block particular segments of a web page you don’t want Google to index. This way, you can boost your site’s SEO ranking while preventing Google from indexing portions of your web page. To block web pages that should not be indexed by Google and other search engines, you can use Robots.txt files.

Here are three ways to block a certain page:

1. Use Robots.txt files

Robots.txt files can block a web page from any search engines’ indexing lists. The main purpose of using robots.txt files is to protect a website from overloading requests. It can also be used to block specific portions of web pages as well. So, whenever Googlebot crawls that page and sees the tag or header, it will drop that page from Google Search results.

If you are not familiar with robots.txt files or if you are confused about how it works, here is a snippet of the standard structure of robots.txt files.

Group 1

User-agent: Googlebot

Disallow: /nogooglebot/

Group 2

User-agent: *

Allow: /

Sitemap: http://www.example.com/sitemap.xml

When you place these robots.txt files in the HTML header of a specific page, it will prevent Google and other search engines from crawling into that page.

2. Meta tags can help too

Aside from robots.txt files, meta tags can also help you a lot. It will be very useful when excluding specific articles and portions of your web pages from search engines’ indexing lists. These meta tags will make the specific article of your website non-indexable for Google bots and other search engine bots.

If you want to exclude a particular segment of your web page from Google’s indexing, you should use the following meta tag:

<meta name=”googlebot” content=”unavailable_after: 27-Aug-2020 18:30:00 IST”>.

You can also change the date portion in the meta tag:

<meta name=”robots” content=”noindex, nofollow”>.

3. You can also use iFrames

iFrames is a handy tool to solve your purpose. You may need to be tech-savvy when choosing this option. To make it easier to understand, add the iframe meta tag to a particular segment of your website. Then the webmaster needs to put the specific piece of content in a separate HTML file.

The following snippets will clarify the entire thing to you in a better way-

<iframe src=”/nocrawl/content.html” width=”100%” height=300 scrolling=no>

<iframe src=”excluded.html”>

4. You can use AJAX as another option

When your iFrames tags don’t on other search engines, you can use jquery AJAX to remove parts of a web page from search engines’ indexing list. For example, the following code may be beneficial

<div id=”hidden”></div>

<script>

$.get(

“/nocrawl/content.html”,

function(data){$(‘#hidden’).html(data)},

);

</script>

Conclusion

These are just some of the procedures you can use to exclude parts of web pages from Google’s listing. Execute them correctly to avoid ranking low in SERPs. Choose the solution that works best with your website for faster and smoother loading.
