This week has been emotional for me. I have been flashing back to the microaggressions and disappointments I faced in Corporate America, and my heart goes out to all the Black entrepreneurs trying to figure out what they are going to do now. This is why I had to write this blog about how to market a Black-owned business.
Let’s face it. Keeping Affirmative Action, DEI, and just America acknowledging 400+ years of systematic oppression and the outright robbery of Black bodies of just compensation, housing, and protection of intellectual property is clearly off the table. Never mind that the data is conclusive: a Black man with a clean record and a bachelor’s degree is less desirable than a white man with a high school diploma and a felony record.
We know this country is hypocritical and isn’t going to change. It is what it is. Now what do we do?
I know what to do, and that’s why I became an entrepreneur. I saw early on, after a brief stint at Raytheon, that getting a fair shake in Corporate America was a pipe dream. So, in the traditions of my ancestors, I had to build my own.
It is crystal clear to me that White America is committed to hating Black people and trying to keep their collective foot on our necks. With that in mind, I wanted to write a love letter to my Black business owners who are in this fight for a piece of this economic pie so we, at the bare minimum, can take care of our families and communities with dignity.
There was a time when I was an MIT alum on food stamps, building someone else’s tech company. I had built a book of business that was worth 500,000+ in revenue annually for my employer but I was on food stamps. That experience was traumatizing. I saw firsthand how non-Black SEO companies dealt with Black-owned businesses—with little understanding or respect for their unique challenges and stories. Many times my hands were tied to give the additional help that I knew that the businesses needed. I knew there had to be a better way.
That’s when I decided to create a culturally competent, white-glove SEO service that could help catapult Black businesses into the online stratosphere. I wanted to empower entrepreneurs to go direct to their ideal customers, build revenue stability, and win online without having to rely solely on Big Box Retailers or fickle DEI programs.
Pssst… I have a secret to share: SEO drives sales when done The SEO Queen Way.
I know because I’ve seen it work time and time again. One of my proudest moments? Driving SEO for the estate of the legendary Ntozake Shange, whose work inspired For Colored Girls, later made into a major motion picture by Tyler Perry. Thanks to my SEO strategies, her estate’s website hit Page 1 on Google, increasing their online visibility and impact.

And now, I want to help you achieve that same kind of visibility and success.
That’s why I created the Brand Attraction and Revenue Amplifier Program (BARA)—your blueprint to dominate Web, Map, Shopping, Image, Video, and News results, and landing your brand on Google Page 1.
Why SEO Matters for Black-Owned Businesses
One of the mistakes I see many Black-owned businesses make is investing heavily in social media, paid ads, and PR without a comprehensive SEO strategy. Then they get frustrated when their business doesn’t take off.
Here’s the rub: SEO is algorithm-driven.
When your content displays your expertise, you win. When your content is consistent and fully optimized for meta tags, alt tags, backlinks, and citations, your ideal customers will find you. SEO is also a game changer because you can optimize your brand for Web, Image, News, and Video results.
This is what the Brand Attraction and Revenue Amplifier Program does. It makes your brand stand out consistently for web, image, news, and video results without breaking the bank. In fact, The SEO Queen is helping businesses see a 6.8X ROI on the BARA program.
Addressing Common SEO Objections
I get it—you might be thinking:
- Isn’t SEO too complicated? The truth is, SEO can feel overwhelming, but that’s why I’ve developed a straightforward, proven approach. With the Brand Attraction and Revenue Amplifier Program, we handle the heavy lifting so you can focus on your business.
- Won’t this take forever to see results? SEO is a marathon, not a sprint, but our strategies are designed to deliver measurable progress quickly—with compounding results over time.
- Isn’t social media enough? Social media is important, but it’s fleeting. SEO ensures your business gets found by people actively searching for what you offer, creating a long-term, stable source of traffic and revenue. Blog Posts have a life span of 12-24 months whereas an Instagram Post lasts only hours.
Direct Connection to Customers
SEO allows you to build a direct connection with your ideal customers—those who are actively searching for what you offer. This bypasses the need to rely solely on external partnerships or temporary boosts from DEI initiatives.
Promoting Economic Development Through Community Support
By helping Black-owned businesses rank higher on search engines, we contribute to economic growth within our communities. Supporting one Black-owned business often creates ripple effects throughout the local economy.
Building a Legacy
Promoting Black-owned businesses is the key to economic advancement. Ranking higher on search engines helps you build long-term brand equity and customer loyalty.
Is Shopping at a Black-Owned Business Actually Helpful?
Absolutely. But visibility is key. Customers need to know where to find your business. With strategic SEO, your business can be the first result they see when searching for products and services in your niche.
How Can Black-Owned Businesses Grow Using SEO?
Here are some of my favorite tips:
- Keyword Research: Identify the terms your ideal customers are using. Focus on keywords like “Black-owned businesses near me” or “eco-friendly Black-owned brands.”
- Content Marketing: Create blog posts, videos, and social media content that speaks to your audience’s needs. Consistent, high-quality content helps boost your search rankings.
- Local SEO: Optimize for Google Maps and other local directories to capture customers in your area.
Backlink Building: Secure links from reputable sites to build your domain authority. - Technical SEO: Ensure your site loads quickly, is mobile-friendly, and offers a great user
Final Thoughts
Promoting Black-owned businesses is essential not just for economic development but for creating a more inclusive and vibrant marketplace. By leveraging the power of SEO, you can build revenue stability, grow your brand, and make an impact.
